Tizen App Challenge deadline

Is there a chance to move the deadline for submitting applications for the competition (Tizen App Challenge) ?

I need more time to refine the game which I create.

LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

For sure the time was enough (the contest start on JULY!!!!!)

Could be ... It happened before with other Samsung challenges ....

keep hope up and work...you will know for sure during this week

Przemyslaw Klosok

3 month is not enough to develop some bigger game.

Port-a-thone was delayed five times (even now they can not finalize it).

So maybe the "Tizen App Challenge" could be delayed too.

Ps. Marco don't forget to write a little bit longer "LOL"

Tizen developers working on apps specially for the Tizen Platform may have some valid reasons to request (or hope) for an extension of the submission deadline for the Tizen App Challenge:

1. Difficulty in acquiring (or lack thereof) production-ready/quality Test Devices in which to test apps

2. It's true the Tizen App Challenge began in July 2013, but may developers learned about it only a month or two later.

3. Because of the short time frame (and lack of test devices, including tablets) in which to develop apps, the Quality of the apps being submitted may be much less than when developers have sufficient time and resources to develop them.

I also am hoping that the Tizen App Challenge organizers will consider extending the dealine, even if only by 2-3 weeks, to give us time to adequately test our apps.

We've put a lot of work into our game, only to find there are some hardware issues causing our game to overheat the device, lock the phone and require a hard reset. An extension would be a great opportunity for us to work with Samsung to try and resolve any of these hardware issues.

Refer to https://developer.tizen.org/contests/tizen-app-challenge/faq , at last they have given, you can email to tizenappchallenge@tizen.org for any such questions on app challenges

Przemyslaw Klosok

I'm already wrote to them , but they didn't respond.

there is unconfirmed news on twitter that the challenge has been extended to Dec 8

Oscar Lito M Pablo

Hi Nour,

Are you able to confirm the Twitter news, perhaps with a link or specific reference to the Twitter post/message?

Appreciate it!
Oscar

Check @TizenExperts from @rnyazhemetdinov who attended the SDC13

I don't know if this is real or scam!! just read it on twitter .. don't blame me :)

Oscar Lito M Pablo

Thanks Nour!

Henry Hoffman

The new date appears on the competition page so I guess it's official. Great news.

Oscar Lito M Pablo

Thanks for the update Henry - much appreciated!

Michał

Nice joke!

Everybody taking part in contest at the beginning know the rules and deadlines... rules were the same to everybody.

Now they changed the deadline to 8th December. So they can change it to infinity?

So everyone who made app and fit in the 1 November deadline are deceived, because they may made their apps in hurry and drop some functionality, and now deadline is changed so concurent apps or people who fucked up the deadline and did not manage to make their apps to 1 November now get some additional time which is kind of advantage to them.

Changing contest deadline if rules are clear at the beginning is UNFAIR.

Oscar Lito M Pablo

Hi Michat,

On the other hand, you can think of it as giving you more time now to improve your app some more to increase its chances of winning.

I believe you can re-submit your app to the Tizen App Challenge.

Good luck,
Oscar

Powiesz mu "konkurs to konkurs, wszyscy mieli równe szanse OD POCZĄTKU"... no chyba nie.

Powodzenia

Przemyslaw Klosok

I'm with you Michal! Changing rules during an ongoing competition should only be done if there are really, really good reasons for it which i can't see at the moment. I had to make a lot of hard decisions (leave out stuff etc.) for my apps to be able to finish development on time and now it seems quite pointless. :/

Speaking about the UNFAIR,  when only devs from 22 countries are allowed to take part

I think it is written in the rules that they are allowed to change the deadline ...

Michał

But people from other countries don't take part in it from the beginning.

They can change deadline, and like I said, they can change it second time, third time.. infinity. They can even delete contest site, shut the mouth and wait when everyone forget about contest... (because who will sue big Samsung...)
But there is some word "decency"...

I can understand changing deadline if they will give us new Tizen version or developer tools. But if platform and tools are still one big piece of sh*t... and app can crash randomly because of Tizen platform unknown errors, or they dont give drivers or there is lack of any support this is kind a joke far away from "decency" word.

Yeah true but that increased other dev chances...For example, devs from non eligible countries could win it if they participated..

The challenge is run by Linux Foundation and not Samsung ... you can't sue Sammy anyway

Many of previous Samsung challenges were extended for one month, that's why i replied at the top that this could happen

I never witnessed a challenge delayed more than that ... so it will not go for ever or cancelled ... Tizen is important. Bada challenges never was cancelled despite poor participation sometimes ..I remember app making your voice funny won a grand price !!

John Ixion

Users of Unity (for instance) will probably be able to participate now.

When Unity3d will release the Tizen support officially?
John Ixion

In the coming weeks hopefully ;)

I can‘t understand what happened about the deadline.

In this page:https://developer.tizen.org/contests/tizen-app-challenge/news, it said "The Tizen App Challenge is open today with all submissions due by November 1, 2013. Judging will take place November 4 – November 25, 2013", but in this page:https://developer.tizen.org/contests/tizen-app-challenge/terms-and-conditions, it said "The Challenge begins on or about 12:00 A.M. U.S. Pacific Time (PT) on July 9, 2013 and ends at 11:59 P.M. U.S. Pacific Time (PT) on December 8, 2013 (“Promotion Period”)."

My English may be too poor. Now i don't know which day is the deadline......

It was 1/11/2013 --> Now 8/12/2013 5 weeks extended
nathan

I concur with Michał.
In my opinion the reason to change the deadline is unreasonable, the newly developed tools support Tizen and people know this contest late to wait another challenges.

I took a break from working at the company in July to focus on Tizen challenges, it is 4 months and I have no income, I have completed my application and intends to return to work, if change the deadline I think is not fair.

Patrick Mortara

Can we get at least an official explanation why the deadline has been changed? If there was a good reason for that, it would be fine, but at the moment it does not seem so.

Arnaud Dagnelies

Well, I see only complains, but personnally, I'm actually happy about it. I discovered this contest only two weeks ago so I was very tight on schedule ...too tight.

My 2 cents about the "inofficial" reason (pure speculations) is that they received less submissions than expected, or that they were a bit unpolished. I mean, they shovel 4 Millions into this, so they also want to see some bang for their bucks. That would fit with their press release "hey, you can also do games for Tizen with this and that game maker!" ...to get more stuff in. Their objective is to fill the store with some good stuff. Again, IMHO, their "spreading the word" was pretty poor considering their budget. I remember looking for such a contest back in july/august/september but never found it, except recently, totally by chance.

Patrick Mortara

I can understand that a lot of people are actually quite happy about this, but please always consider our perspective too. If the deadline would have been changed 1 or 2 months ago, we probably wouldn't have said anything, but doing this 2 days before the challenge ends is an absolute no-go in my (and as it seems not only my) eyes.

John Ixion

A lot of game devs use Unity which isn't Tizen compatible atm

It would have been unfair if they couldn't participate imo.

There is no news on unity3d site... I doubt they can catch up sadly.

Patrick Mortara

Yeah, but Unity isn't the only one then, but we still don't wait for all the other Game-SDK which are in development too, or? Unity was never a prerequisite or anything for the Tizen App Challenge, so i still don't see why is a reason for extending the deadline.

Look, you could also see it that way:

If the tizen group wanted to let Unity-Users take part in the challenge, why haven't they said that before and extended the deadline from the beginning on? It was quite clear that Unity for Tizen will not be ready on time so this is nothing that had come surprisingly 2 days before deadline.

I understand people frustration ...can I complain as well?

I found about the challenge one month before it started, I give away the summer and worked hard for a month on app and then found I am not eligible?

Guys, who started earlier, you have a chance to improve your apps/games while others have a chance to submit new apps

Have a confidence and be happy :)

It happened before and might always happen, Life is about luck and hard work

Patrick Mortara

Why aren't you not eligable?

contest is open olny for 22 countries

contest is open olny for 22 countries

Patrick Mortara

ok, i'm sorry for that but the list of eligable countries was known from the beginning on, as far as i remember. I don't know why it is only those 22 countries, but i believe the Tizen-Group has good reasons for choosing only them. There could be legal issues or something with other countries.

It is ok,

As I said, the first announcement was in May and I started coding right away. There was no mention for the restriction then.

It is related to some law, check this topic if you want to know more

Peter Wegner

Any news about this challenge?

Can we expect something before MWC 2014?

I mean any public results...

Thanx in advance.

Best Regards

Marco Buettner

The judge period ends on 01/17... After that the winners should published on Tizenappchallenge.com ... So yes you will see anything before the MWC2014 starts ;)

But who cares public information?!

James Waymire

Also not to hijack here... but how can we ensure that our submission was also flagged as an HTML 5 app/game? That way we know that it is eligible for the HTML5 specific prizes as well...
