Upgrade to Tizen 2.4 campaign should be launched

Looking at the user distribution chart, who are using Tizen 2.3 is still huge.

The reasons are as follows.

1. Unless they connect to WiFi they are never asked for the OS upgrade.

2. There is no incentive or push from Samsung to make them upgrade for the Tizen 2.4.

But, the problem for the developer is multifold.

1. Many Developer Tools have stopped support for the Tizen 2.3. For example, Unity 5.5 supports only Tizen 2.4 and above.

2. Developer cannot use the latest features provided by Tizen 2.4+ to retain support for 2.3, though Tizen 2.3 is used by only one device.

3. Cost of development increases as we have to concentrate to multiple OSes.

4. Cost and Time of Testing increases as we have to test on multiple OSes.

It is bad for Samsung too, as customers will not have positive image of the Tizen, as they are not using the latest OS version.

So, a major upgrade to Tizen 2.4 campaign for all the customers who visit Tizen App Store should comeup and they should be informed about what they are losing, if they do not upgrade. Even download using the Mobile Data should be pushed.

Tizen 2.3 is only SM-Z130H "phenomenon"...

SM-Z300H and SM-Z200F and SM-Z200Y started with Tizen 2.4.0.x

2.

I have no idea if you know how FOTA work?

2.1

FOTA Server spit out "new" Firmware only if 3 valid text strings can be found on FOTA Server...

Example all Z1 Firmware for country India... INS

Z130HDDU0CPC2/Z130HODD0CPC2/Z130HDDU0COKC
Z130HDDU0BOG1/Z130HODD0BOG1/Z130HDDU0AOC3
Z130HDDU0BOA3/Z130HODD0BOA3/Z130HDDU0ANL8
Z130HDDU0CPC4/Z130HODD0CPC4/Z130HDDU0COKC
Z130HDDU0BOD7/Z130HODD0BOD7/Z130HDDU0AOC3
Z130HDDU0BOC7/Z130HODD0BOC7/Z130HDDU0AOC2
Z130HDDU0BNL9/Z130HODD0BNL9/Z130HDDU0ANL7
Z130HDDU0BOH1/Z130HODD0BOH1/Z130HDDU0BOH2
Z130HDDU0BOK2/Z130HODD0BOK2/Z130HDDU0BOH4
Z130HDDU0CPD5/Z130HODD0CPD5/Z130HDDU0CPD5
Z130HDDU0COL6/Z130HODD0COL6/Z130HDDU0COKC
Z130HDDU0BOB2/Z130HODD0BOB2/Z130HDDU0ANL8
Z130HDDU0BOB3/Z130HODD0BOB3/Z130HDDU0AOB1
Z130HDDU0ANL7/Z130HODD0ANL7/Z130HDDU0ANL7
Z130HDDU0CPB1/Z130HODD0CPB1/Z130HDDU0COKC

ONLY if Server request match with info from:

*#1234#

2.2

Next problems... if not enough space or other problems... FOTA update can fail... and create INVALID info...

Simple Firmware is mixed...

Also other problems lead to impossible situation to use FOTA update...

Hint... our Beta and Test Firmware for example...

3.

If user know he has old or wrong Firmware and FOTA not work....

He can try "repair" attempt with Full Firmware with help of Tools:

Kies 3

Smart switch

Odin is leaked but IMHO best Tool for repiar Firmware mismatch without dataloss...

3.1

Kies 3 and Smart Switch works also only via text string check...

So you are forced to try Init... which means Factory Reset...

AND user have to download big Packages...

Between 300 MB (for normal Package) - 700 MB full repair package...

3.2

Repair attempt require Computer + USB cable...

Seems for few users nearly impossible to handle...

3.3

Service Center require sometimes money for Firmware update...

Only as info.

:)

Here is an example, what Samsung/Tizen Team tried long time ago with Deep Link stuff...

http://d13mlfrt731yda.cloudfront.net/nas01/ASTORE_SHARE/publish/renewal/SHAREit.html

It is possible to use Browser similar to Command Launch_app...

But again.

If Firmware infos on device are invalid, then FOTA Server not inform you about new Firmware.... you get only Standard Blabla:

Your Firmware is latest or something similar...

This message not tell you, your Firmware is wrong or not in Database...

I agree to all your concerns.

But, atleast Samsung should stop selling Z1 and focus on Z2, which is a better version of Z1 at a cheaper price.

Z1 gives very bad user experience with Tizen 2.3, and many people do not upgrade their phone to Tizen 2.4.

Many customers are blaming Samsung for selling such a bad phone in Amazon. It is effecting Samsung brand.
