Getting a Certificate Request for Gear 2 Development

Hi all,

I'm trying to get a certificate request for developing apps for the Gear 2. From what I read in the Help file, a DUID (Device Unique Identifier) is required. How can I even get it? The device is not on sale yet.

Also, do I really have to buy a Gear 2 just for developing for it? I don't think I have to buy an Android phone to develop for Android :-/

Thanks!

Hello,

You may use Emulator

Michelle Somerville

You can get a virtual DUID from the Samsung Developers website.

See http://developer.samsung.com/samsung-gear for more information.

During cert generation, when I enter a DUID and I wish to use this certificate to install on my physical test device, do I click on the "Get the virtual device unique ID" link from http://developer.samsung.com/samsung-gear, or do I use my physical's device's actual DUID? If I need to use my physical device's DUID, how do I retrieve it?

Michelle Somerville

You need to use the physical's device's DUID - the virtual DUID is just for developers who don't have access to a device.

From the SDK Help (Getting Started with Tizen Wearable > Development Environment > Tizen SDK for Wearable > Certificates > Generating a Certificate Request):

To get the DUID (Device Unique Identifier):

  1. Connect your device to your host computer or launch the Emulator.
  2. In the Connection Explorer, check that the connected device or Emulator is visible.
  3. Select the device or Emulator, and click Properties.

The DUID is visible on the Info panel.

Just the info I needed, thanks!

Michelle,

On the Tizen SDK 2.3 for Mac in the Help/Help Contents this does not exist : Getting Started with Tizen Wearable > Development Environment > Tizen SDK for Wearable > Certificates > Generating a Certificate Request

Does anyone know where this document is?

My Samsung Gear 2 device never appears on the connection explorer, how do i troubleshoot this? is there any other way to get the DUID?

Michelle Somerville

The Tizen SDK 2.3 doesn't include the certificate generator tool - you need to install the extension from:

http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000248

You can find more information about the certificate process at:

http://developer.samsung.com/gear/guide_certification.html

Are you using OSX 10.11? There is a known issue with the USB driver on this version. A workaround is to install the Smart Switch application on your mac. You can download it from:

http://www.samsung.com/us/smart-switch/

Hello,

Conserning your last issue, about connection between the device and your PC: some people already had the same issue. They've found the way to solve it: please, install the Smart Work app on your PC.

If you want to get more details about this triuble, you can read the following topic (solution was provided in comments):

Do you enebale USB debugging on your device?

http://phoneradar.com/tech/enable-usb-debugging-samsung-gear-2/

Juan Ospina

AVSukhov, yes i have. I see Palitsyna has posted some links specific to mac os so i will try those.

Juan Ospina

AVSukhov, followed the instructions but nothing has changed.

What is smart swtich supposed to do? i open the program and it does nothing. Just displays "connect device to get started".

Nothing has changed in the SDK either, i still can't see my device.

Yes, i have turned on USB debugging. By the way i have Mavericks, haven't upgraded to El Capitan

Juan Ospina

One more thing, the instructions on this link don't work

http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000248

First of all where is ' Tizen SDK Install Manager'? There is no such option on any of the SDKs (i have downloaded all versions possible on the website).

The closes thing is Help/Install new software, and trying to add the local zip package doesn't work.

Palitsyna

Hello,

To see the Tizen SDK Install Manager window you should run your installer (.exe file you've downloaded from here  https://developer.tizen.org/development/tools/download#installmanager). In the Tizen SDK Install Manager window click Update.

Then follow instructions (http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000248)

Thanks. In the end what did the trick for me, was working with the right SDK, which is the Tizen IDE for Wearable, this is an easy mistake to make, more clarification would be good on the documentation. (there's 2.4, 2.3 ...) and the tutorial for Wearable has screenshots that say 2.4 all over it.

On my mac i was never able to get the watch to show up on USB and i am wondering if its even possible. I mean, the watch has no USB port! (only a charger) how is this gonna work exactly? very misleading information. The way in which i got it to work was via Wifi : connecting to the same network and usinf the tool interface to connect.

I know people here are very smart and end up working out things themselves... but wow. What a pain to find the right information.

PS. i am the only one for whom the developer.tizen.org site randomly switches languages? now i see the interface in korean.

Palitsyna

Hello,

yes, the site restructuring process is taking place and sometimes it is difficult to find necessary information. Hope, in future, all required information will be gathered and structured.

And yes, there is a trouble with languages. Try to switch to Eglish or to another language and then back to English

Tizen 2.4 SDK will support wearables to a later time. Currently 2.4 is only for Mobile... U can read it in the name of the SDK too.

If u want develop for Wearables u have to use TizenSDK 2.3.1, the TizenSDK for Wearables ist outdated and shouldnt use anymore. With TizenSDK 2.3.1 u can also develop apps from Tizen 1.0 to 2.3.1, but not ALL devices run with 2.3.1. It will nice to know the latest running version for some devices or if planned that the Gear 2 also got 2.3.1?

For Gear S2 I found are option to http://developer.samsung.com/technical-doc/view.do?v=T000000251 ... All other Gear device support USB debugging (yeah the Gear 2 support USB debugging). We use are Gear 2 to test our app and it runs perfectly with USB.
