Tizen Incentives Program - Why I think it's UNFAIR for developers : Analysis

Alright, based on the new emerging trends in Tizen Store, I have made some more observations.

- It's certain that Samsung is going to stop feturing new apps (especially the ones registered with Tizen Incentives) is not going to feature those apps in any category that bring many downloads (Top Free, New free) once the app receives 20k downloads.

- Uptil 20k downloads Samsung wants to feature the app so that developers feel that the app will make it to top 100

- Once 20k mark is reach, Samsung stop featuring the app. As a result, the download comes down under 1k - literally in the range of 200 to 500. So even if you receive 500 downloads for 10 days, it is impossible to receive 40k downloads for that month.

- Furthermore, this strategy will be applied only for the first month when app is launched - this is because the first month/first time when the app is launched, it receives lots of downloads. The downloads then gradually decrease and achieves a steep. During this "steep" phase, it is again impossible to receive 40k or more downloads in any month, unless you invest money in marketing.

- Overall effect of this strategy from Samsung is that many new apps will keep coming on the Tizen Store, but only 2-3 apps will make it to their Top 100 most downloaded list. Furthermore, Samsung does not make winners public, so it becomes very difficult to communicate with winners and know how many downloads they received, or make strategic decisions to increase your chances of winning 10k.

What do you guys think?  Samsung surely does not want to give away more 10k awards and still want to attract more developers to develop for it's platform. Problem is there is no way developers will have any advantages in making apps for Tizen because the market is small and a very small , negligible subset of their users buy paid apps.

In short, it's going to be waste of time for writing apps for Tizen henceforth.

PS: If you can't reply in English, there is no need to reply here. Also, don't hijack this thread by discussing about your documents and residence proof and tax documents etc. You can start your own thread in the language you prefer, just not this thread. Thanks!

I give you a few numbers exactly:
In February there are 56 app to win
In March there are 50 new app and 45 app to win the prize
In April there are 35 new app

Maybe we should fight with store algorithm by setting old apps paid? There will be free new space on the top free 100 list. BTW. I have Z3 phone and main page content (with banners and featured apps) of the Tizen Store has never changed!
The same happens in RTL devices.

If the program don't want apps up to top 100, they have many way.

How do you think if the apps on Top New Free will be removed in 10K download(current is 20K)?

If the program do this, i think nearly no one can up their apps to top 100 :D

Very true Virendra Shakya ,I concur with your observations ,all my apps once they reach 20k you're removed from the new free category and placed in a void where users have to manually search so that they find your apps, winning Tizen Incentive is a very big scam,Samsung just  wants to boost their number of apps in the Tizen store by enticing devs with the 10k,which is like dangling a carrot infront of the mule ("developers"),I tried to shore up numbers to petition The Incentive team but only Paul L was interested,I was disillusioned greatly and left the matter because we devs have no collective voice to challenge these unfairness

I have exactly the same problem. My best performing game was removed from any list. One day it was no:2 in Top New Free, tomorrow I can't find it anywhere. It is not in any list. What is interesting, the game from 1 place in Top New Free is now 11 place in Top Free, yet my game is not shown anywhere. And one more funny fact, my slow performing games are still in Top New Free list, so it looks like Tizen Store is forcing bad games and hiding good ones. It does not make any sense.

In fact it only makes sense if Tizen Store is aiming to stop us from getting Incentive money.

I really can't understand how they don't understand that we developers will now hate Tizen platform. They are loosing more than they are gaining in my oppinion.

what is your daily download count Virendra Shakya? Did you get to top free?

Dang Oanh

my app is also declined when download count is increasing.

I think, this program is unfair, condemn it please. So tired to developers.

Yo Shakya

My daily download count is now below 400. Their is no way I can make it to top 100 now unless Samsung features my app in top free 100. My app was at #46 in Top Free on Day 3 after launch due to heavy demand for my app, but Samsung removed it from all categories except Utilities and secondary category Productivity. Samsung does not want to feature it in Top 100 free or New Free category because those 2 categories brings maximum downloads. Even though the algorithm applies to all new apps, none of new apps will get into 100 most downloaded apps. This is based on observations of my other apps and also based on download count shared in other threads on this forum. It's crystal clear Samsung is trying to do it's level best to stop any other new apps getting 10k$. A suicidal cheating by Samsung cause it will backfire on them.

How may downloads your app is getting Paul L? Did you win the 10k last month, or you applied for your app for this month?

Paul L

I have 500-600 per day now, app is not in the top free 100. I won last month :)

Yes its a true observation, Samsung is doing all this intentionally . Its very clear that they dont want much of the winners in comming month.
